Notary Services

Any lawyer that is entitled to practise in Ontario is, by virtue of office, a commissioner for taking affidavits and can legally administer an oath, affirmation or declaration to a person making an affidavit.

Any lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada can apply for a lifetime appointment as a notary public through the Ministry of Government Services.  A Notary Public can:

a) witness oaths, solemn affirmations, and statutory declarations;
b) witness the signing of affidavits;
c) certify that signature and marks are genuince; and
d) certify that documents are true copies of the original.
